Today Express Air Services (Pty) Ltd, restyled as BidAir Cargo, is operating from 5 adjoining airside warehouses at OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg South Africa. This tactic has consolidated its Domestic, Regional and International operations into a hub and spoke model, a concept uncommon on the African continent.
The fresh and streamlined BidAir Cargo is closely allied with its parent corporate, the Bidvest Group, the largest industrial conglomerate in South Africa and stringently upholds corporate standards and governance.
In 2011 the approach of bringing BidAir Cargo services into line with its customer’s vertical services was introduced, creating separate channels away from general cargo for live animals through BidAir Cargo PetLounges. Valuable and vulnerable cargo conduits have also been identified to align with customer business.
A variety of service types on the domestic front in South Africa cater for express cargo, bulk cargo, perishable cargo and general cargo. BidAir Cargo operates a secure closed loop system collecting and delivering cargo directly to and from the aircraft, generating fast hand-out and short hand-in times.
BidAir Cargo is an Empowerdex accredited Level 3 Contributor and is a 137.5% Value Adding Supplier. As a result every R1.00 spent with BidAir Cargo contributes R1.37 towards the customer’s procurement BEE scorecard
An innovative IT System and Management Control Centre which includes live satellite vehicle tracking and service delivery levels and exception reports, in real time, is unique in the air cargo industry in South Africa.
BidAir Cargo began operating from Lanseria, Gauteng in the latter part of 2011, managing cargo between Lanseria and Cape Town and Lanseria and Durban. BidAir Cargo is the only cargo operator for scheduled flights on the privately owned international airport.
BidAir Cargo is a reputable provider of air cargo sales and handling services with representation in key African countries providing a wide South African, African and Intercontinental network, fed through the Johannesburg hub on more than 150 partner airline flights, daily.
The company’s sights are set on an ISAGO (IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations) accreditation on its road to repositioning BidAir Cargo as market leaders in the South African air cargo community.
